Help me give my students the ability to listen to recorded lessons and videos in the classroom. We use headphones almost everyday and the majority of my students can not afford their own pair to bring to school.
Every morning I say, "Good morning my most amazing class, how are you today?" They reply, "Looking good and feeling fine!" It's a small way to remind them they are special and worthy. Sometimes these kids don't get a lot of smiles and praise at home, so I like to create a safe, friendly environment!
Our rural, public school has strong ties to the community.
We have about 900 students, and most do not have access to learning outside the classroom or even basic school supplies. Most ride the bus and do not have time to get extra help or enrichment from teachers after school. Our school population is 75% below the poverty line, and the majority receive free or reduced lunch. It is my job to provide an equal opportunity for all students to learn the skills needed for further education and success.
My Project
Our school provides each student with a Chromebook, but unfortunately not a pair of headphones. Many online text books have embedded videos and recordings that provide extra explanation of the material. Also, many tests are now recorded to help students with learning challenges. My lessons follow a partially flipped classroom model so the students can listen to my videos at their own pace. Headphones allow for this flexibility. Students are often motivated to work if allowed to listen to music as well.
Though a typical class size is around 28 students, I am only asking for 20 headphones.
I have some left over from this year and a handful of students are able to purchase their own. I particularly liked these because Amazon reviews mentioned "quality" , "sturdy", and "durable". We also use Expo markers frequently to work out math problems on individual whiteboards. Expo markers are an expensive product to purchase out-of-pocket and continuously stock throughout the year.
