Our close-knit Title I school is located in a beautiful country setting. The students are energetic, curious and work hard. The parents are positive and the community is a great resource of support.
The students come to school each day to learn so that they can be a positive and helping participant in society.
The students work together to support one another both in the school and outside of the school day. Whenever a need arises in the community our students are always there to lend a helping hand. Therefore, when we can help to pay it forward to the students we jump at the opportunity.
My Project
Every student can use a helping hand when it comes to needing supplies for the next school year or moving on out of high school and into college. As students start preparing for college, one of the main concerns is the cost. Not just the cost of college itself, but the cost of all the supplies that are needed as well. As an educator, it is wonderful to be able to hand out a backpack with supplies to a student who can use some help as they leave their senior year. The students have an after prom event where items are given to the students who are juniors and seniors. The items given out can be used for their next year in high school or to help them move on into college. The backpacks will be placed on a table of available items where the students will have the option to take the backpack home to use in their next school year. Inside the backpack will be pencils for completing assignments, a stapler and staples to help keep their papers together and ready to turn in and a desk organizer, so that all items are organized on their desk and readily available to use. The surge protector is something they will need to plug in all of their electronic devices while at school.
Offering a backpack with supplies as a prize gives the students the opportunity to choose what they need instead of being told what someone thinks they need.
Many students don't like to be singled out, so offering these backpacks as a prize to all students will help to create a safe environment that it is your choice to take something you need. These backpacks and supplies will keep the students moving forward with their education.
