This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are curious, explorers, and full of questions and deep thinking. They enjoy the thrill of reading a new book and learning more about the historical background behind both fiction and nonfiction texts. Quite often we read passages that don't connect to their personal lives, but with novels they really soar! They are able to connect with the characters, think about their feelings, and problem solve as the inference throughout the chapters.
We receive Title I funds at our school because three out of four students are at an economic disadvantage.
This is a challenge in their personal lives, but school and especially reading gives them an escape into another world!
My Project
We will use the book "The Lemonade War" to jump-start the year! It will enhance students' able to apply writing to texts. They will also be able create arts integrated projects to dive deeper into the text. Students will be able to have their own personal copy to use in the classroom which gives them a sense of ownership over their reading. They will also have the chance to work in cooperative groups to enhance their reading and teamwork skills. Reading a fun grade level text for the first few weeks of school will help us form an awesome class team!
