My Students
Washburn Elementary School is located near Minneapolis and St. Paul in Minnesota. We have a culturally, socially and economically diverse population of students. There are 450 students in preschool through grade 5.
With the help of our greater community, Washburn has built an Outdoor classroom as an extension of our classrooms.
It provides students, staff and families with a greater appreciation of nature, an expansive view of how the world works and builds stewardship skills for the environment.
I am the media director and tech integrationist at Washburn and recently created a STEM/Makerspace area that focuses on Technology and Engineering. Students participate in a variety of engineering challenges using everyday objects and donated items. I love to see students collaborate, design and build in the Makerspace.
My Project
Lego WeDo 2.0 kits would be a great addition to our new STEM / Makerspace area. Currently, we primarily use everyday and donated objects in our school Makerspace. We would like to add robotics and engineering activities for our students that compliment our Math, ELA and Science curriculum.
Lego WeDo 2.0 kits will provide collaborative STEM experiences with a combination of manipulatives, curriculum, and digital solutions.
Students will be introduced to basic programming with an easy to use drag and drop software program. Lego WeDo can be used across a wide range of curricular activities, such as science, maths, literacy and technology.
