This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"It's not about what it is; it is about what it can become."

Dr. Seuss.

I have the pleasure of working with outstanding children.

They come to school prepared to learn and try their best every day. I teach in a Title I school with a high population of non-native English speakers. Our school is located in a low-income area, with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

I focus on the potential and growth of the children in my room. That growth is measured in student joy and love for learning, their engagement in classroom activities, and their desire to share their learning at home!

My Project

First-grade students are so focused on phonics skills needed for reading that comprehension skills are sometimes lost. These storytelling LEGOS will encourage them to not just pay attention to the words they read but also the story plot.

Students will create and develop their stories verbally with partners.

They will be encouraged to videotape themselves using the LEGO pieces to retell the story.

Many of my students need help to verbalize their thoughts and organize their words to communicate in English. These LEGOS will provide interest and partnerships that will enable peer productivity. They will collaborate and build their stories together, sharing their understanding by using fun, yet educational tools. Help make a difference in the lives of my young, developing storytellers!
