This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a diverse group of boys and girls from a number of religious and cultural backgrounds. Many of my students are multi-lingual and most come from financially struggling families. A number of my students have already seen trauma in their short lives, so school is a safe, routine place for them to learn and grow and to be loved.

Their strength and determination are inspiring.

I want to harness these fantastic qualities into creating strong, problem-solving students!

My 2nd-grade classroom is filled with students of all ability and levels. In any classroom,​ it is extremely important that I know and teach to all the levels in my classroom.

My Project

This school year in 2nd grade we are learning about Balance and Motion. During this unit we learn about forces and gravity. In addition, students need to learn about tools and machines. These Simple Machine LEGO sets are an amazing tool for inquiry and implementation by students. When students are learning about levers and pulleys, these LEGO sets would allow students to use familiar materials to build the simple machines. Hands on learning means minds on learning as well. This kits are the real life experience that my students need to fulfill the role of scientist. Students will collaborate with partners to build and test their simple machines.
