This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you love Legos? My kindergarten kiddos do, too! They would love new Lego brick sets! We bought a few sets years ago, but many pieces are now missing. They think it's just play; but I know this play is all about thinking, creating and imagining!
Many of my students live in a high poverty area.
Over 90% of my class receives free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. Over 90% of the students in my class are also second language learners. Our school actively participates in a Gang Reduction and Intervention Program. Despite these challenges, they are also bright, happy students who love coming to school and are eager to learn! Our classroom is a safe place for them to learn, grow and succeed!
My Project
With new Lego bricks, my little learners will be able to work in cooperative groups and role play different scenarios and events that correspond to our language arts, math and social studies programs. While actively constructing a number train or letter house, they are improving their receptive and expressive language. While building creative cars, students have the opportunity to practice sharing and hand-eye coordination. When they play with Legos, they are thinking and learning!
This project is important because our students deserve a classroom learning environment that is rich with resources to help them learn and succeed!
A Lego learning center will engage and motivate little learners! Thank you for considering giving to our class project!
