Legos: Design and Create

My Project

My 3rd graders are full of life and love school. Each day, students are excited to come to school and learn. You see this excitement during our STEM centers through their active engagement with peers and the center assignment. One of the STEM centers is a small classic box of Legos. It is enough Legos to engage my students in small engineering structures but not enough legos to truly harness their creativity.

The classic Lego kit containing 1500 pieces will allow for more creativity in centers.

As an extension, students will use the paper to draw and design a Lego structure. After designing the structure, students will work with their partners to create the structure. Students will learn that designs might need to be altered when trying to create something that is structurally sound. Most importantly, by using the Legos, students will learn that it's okay to make mistakes and to try again. That is such an important life skill that is found in all academic and social areas.
