My Students
Calling all creative engineers! This project will allow my students the chance to program a robot and experience the wonder that goes along with it.
My fifth grade students are inspired by technology to take their learning to new levels.
The class is made up of various learning types from English language learners to the academically accelerated. They like to be challenged yet feel comfortable. This project will allow them to collaborate and explore new ways to apply their math and science learning in the classroom.
My Project
The LEGO Mindstorms EV3 sets will foster the growth of my students through creative STEM education. This project aligns with many principles of arts-based inquiry learning. In order to be successful, my students must apply their learning to a real world situation as they collaborate to learn the techniques of programming, as well as to learn how to design advanced robots using the touch sensor, color sensor, and infrared sensors. They will use their critical thinking skills as they synthesize their knowledge to make a final product, justify the choices they made, and evaluate their final design with a peer board. I will use the trial and error approach to encourage students to voice ideas, record them in our classroom robotics journal for reference, and test them. Together, they will identify strengths and build on them for future robot designs. This project provides opportunities for students of many learning styles to come together because many areas of expertise are needed.
Please help me make way for these creative engineers.
I am excited to see what happens when they are set free to explore and create. I know this kit will be a class favorite for many years to come!
