LEGO Letterpress Printing

My Project

I am always looking out for new and exciting techniques to bring to my students. I love doing projects with printmaking because it is a technique that isn’t often used in primary education.

Recently I came across this technique called Lego letter press, this is where artists use Lego dot pieces to create images and text that they then print like regular block printing.

This method is a great way to combine tactile exploration with the creativity of art and drawing and image making. My students will turn their drawings/ideas into almost pixelized images using the Lego pieces, they will have to think how to best translate their drawing into a Lego picture, then we will print their images and see how they translate once totally 2D.

The results of these artworks that I have seen look amazing, it is even being used by some profess Printmakers! As legos are a very popular toy across all age groups I will be able to teach this to almost all of my grade levels, it will be like playing with toys and also learnings being creative!
