We have the most amazing energetic loving students. There are approximately 200 Pre-K, kindergarten, and first graders that attend our school and we are growing everyday. Our school is a Title I school in our district and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are increasing our technology tools/resources for our students but as we all know budget has us limited.
Our students are eager to learn and want to use any and all resources to enhance their learning.
My Project
Primary grades (Kindergarten & 1st grade) are mostly taught by small group instruction. While one group is learning a new topic, other groups are learning through play in areas such as this hoped-for Lego center. The "Creative" Lego set even comes with cards that give students who are struggling with coming up with their own creations, to copy and create!
So much playtime is being removed from our classrooms, but I want to encourage and increase learning through playtime in the media center.
Using the Lego table, students learn to share with peers, develop fine motor skills, express creativity, and experience STEM-based learning. It is important to give alternative activities to enhance student learning, especially at this age. The Lego table and Legos that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional options in training their fine motor skills and expressing themselves.
