Lego Bricks and GeoStix to Learn Math Tricks

Help me give my students a hands-on and fun way to learn math using LEGO bricks and GeoStix.

My Project

As we head into the final three months of the school year, I want to make sure that my students continue to be fully engaged in the math and writing curriculums. They love having fun and learning from one another.

With the LEGO Brick Set, LEGO baseplates, and geometry sets, my students will enjoy a hands-on math experience while deepening their understanding of multiplication, division, and geometry.

The LEGO Brick Set, together with the LEGO classic baseplates, will be used during our math centers. My goal is to provide another way for my students to learn, understand and enjoy math. Students will use the LEGO Brick Set to build groups and arrays to help them understand multiplication and division. The LEGO Brick Set will also be used to explore fractions as part of a whole and part of a set. Students will also use the LEGO Brick Set to learn more about symmetry.

I am also requesting the following: edxeducation GeoStix Deluxe Set ; Learning Resources Dive into Shapes! A "Sea" and Build Geometry Set; hand2mind AngLegs Geometry Set; and edxeducation Student Place Value Flip Chart. These materials will be used to help my students further develop their conceptual understanding of regular and irregular polygons and their attributes. Students will learn how to build shapes and measure angles in a fun and exciting way. Also, students will use the Place Value Flip Chart to improve their understanding of multi-digit numbers.

Finally, I am requesting replacement ink for our donated color printer. The students are currently working on informational writing, and they need colorful images to include in their final projects. My students love vibrant pictures, and they are more engaged with tasks that are presented in color.
