Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach gifted and talented enrichment classes within lower socioeconomic schools. These students may not have the resources available to them. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. They are excited to explore the world of science and to expand their capacity for critical thinking. It is my mission to give them real life experiences through education settings that enhance and motivate them beyond their normal experiences.
My Project
Students will be using the lego architecture sets to create scaled architectural models of various structures and skylines around the world. The finished product will allow them to experience the practice of architecture and design.
This project would significantly help my students' understanding of the key parts of the architectual design process.
They would see the process connect to a final product, relevant to themselves and impacting the world for better. Students can practice using design technology and experience careers related to it: architecture, graphic design, modeling, and public policy. In the end, they will be problem-solvers, empowered to take the skills and knowledge in their class to improve their lives and those of people around them.
