My Project

My students do not have easy lives. They do without many things; but they seldom complain; they always make do, and they often succeed when so much is stacked against them.

Winter months are especially difficult for my students, and many do not have shoes appropriate for winter.

They spend significant time outdoors, carrying wood and coal, hunting, or just playing around because there's not a lot of other recreation. Cold, wet feet are more than uncomfortable, they also pose a health risk.

Every year I see students wearing canvas shoes with holes, boots several sizes too large, even shoes held together with duct tape, and I want to give some of them one pair of warm, dry boots for the cold and wet east Kentucky winters.

I've broken our shoe project into two, one for girls and one for boys, and I sincerely hope each project is funded.
