Building confidence as writers can be a daunting task for students. This year, I am challenging my students to "Leave a Mark" by developing their skills as writers who explore topics that matter and who write with purpose.
My students are a WONDERFUL group of 120 eighth graders who attend a Title I school in Hawaii.
They are a very gifted and hard-working group of individuals who are eager to learn at any opportunity that is presented to them. This year, our class is focusing on becoming skilled and versatile writers. My students are excited to be working on projects that inspire them. Through their writing, they hope to make a difference in the world around them by raising awareness and sharing their stories.
My Project
This project will greatly assist my students with their "back to school" costs. The "Writer's Notebooks" will allow them the freedom to record their thoughts both inside and outside of class. The notebooks will be used to journal and to draft their writing on a daily basis. Eighth grade is an important time for students to more fully understand and grasp the power of the written word. Their participation in this writing project will allow them to express themselves and to explore their writing. The "Writer's Portfolios" will be used to contain the students' processes and published works throughout the year. The portfolios will contain concrete evidence of their success in writing that will further inspire them. The portfolios will travel with them to high school so that they can continue to grow and develop as writers, as well as reflect on what they have achieved.
Our class will be very grateful to receive support for this project.
My students strive to achieve at high levels, and desire to develop the writing skills that they know will be important in the future. The funding for this project will provide a stepping stone for my students' success in writing.
