Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are inquisitive learners. They love to learn and try their best. They are caring and kind towards each other. They come from Hispanic households in which family is an important part of one's identity. Therefore, our classroom family is also an important part of their learning environment.
These students attend a low-income school in Chicago.
We strive to encourage their academic development but also their social and emotional needs. Sometimes it is hard to meet their needs based on the resources we have so as educators we have to be as creative as possible.
These children are so excited to learn and are so responsible with the materials that they have. They understand that it is a privilege to have the resources that they do have and therefore it is their responsibility to take care of them.
My Project
My students are English Language Learners that have to master their native language while acquiring a second language. The sight word cards will help differentiate their skills while practicing a new language. By the end of second grade the goal is for these students will be biliterate.
It is important for them to experience learning the language in a fun way!
Therefore, the games that will be purchase will have dual purposes. They will allow for the students to utilize them to practice sight words during our reading block as well as being able to use them during indoor recess time.
