This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students absolutely love learning. They walk into the classroom every day eager to dive into a new lesson. They always begin each day striving to do better than the last. They are constantly asking if they can read longer and do more work. Additionally, my students’ parents are extremely supportive and hardworking. They truly want the best for their kids and use our school as a resource.
I teach Special Education in a resource room with amazing students who come from a low-income neighborhood in Chicago where 98% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Unfortunately, our school cannot meet all of their needs as we do not have the funding to buy the supplies to help them.
My Project
My students learn best when they are moving around. They are sitting in a desk everyday from 7:30am-4:00pm. They tend to get very tired and frustrated sitting down for so long and need to move around.
My students need seats that will not only motivate them to keep learning more, but supports their need for moving around and wiggling while working.
By having various forms of seating, I will be able to meet every single one of my students' diverse needs. My students will be able to choice which seating choice will help them complete their work successfully. They will have various seating options to choose from including big, giant pillows ideal for reading, wobble seats and floor seats ideal for completing worksheets, and ball chairs ideal for wiggling during a teacher led lesson.
