I teach a class of students from all different backgrounds. Our school is located in a military town, that is also considered a high poverty area. Our school is currently 100% free lunch.
I'd say our class is a typical group of Kindergarteners who are learning so much in such a short amount of time.
They really thrive on information being given to them in interesting and fun ways. I love being able to see their smiles and witness their reactions when they figure out how to solve a problem or read their first book by themselves!
My students have thoroughly enjoyed learning new ways to solidify skills that they are being taught daily. I have introduced many technology based practice programs for both Literacy and Math that the students love to use. We have tried using them in Whole Group and Small Group lessons and have seen success in the short amount of times that we were able to do so.
Unfortunately, our classroom technology continues to fail us.
I would like to have a set of ChromeBooks that stay in our classroom for everyday use by my students in their small groups. This guarantees success in the areas of Literacy and Math because there will be daily opportunities for practice, rather than sporadic opportunities. My students will be able to sign in to the ChromeBooks each day and complete Literacy and Math activities that are on their individual levels. I will be able to check their progress and track their growth throughout the year. I have already purchased the Math and Literacy computer programs and cannot wait to begin using them in the classroom each day.
I can only imagine the amount of growth that will take place when my students are given the opportunity to practice important skills daily rather than periodically throughout the year. The programs that they will use on the ChromeBooks are so much fun to use and also beneficial to individual student growth.
