This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 3rd grade students enjoy learning new things. Sometimes when we read our textbooks something strikes a chord and they want to use the computer to find more information about the subject matter. However, the computers in my room are archaic and the students are unable to do the research.

The students in my classroom come from varied backgrounds.

They are inquisitive, energetic, and enjoy using technology. They have many questions about their community and the world around them. My school is a Title 1 school where more than half of the student population receive free or reduced lunch. Many of the students are English Language Learners and come from low-income families.

My Project

The students will use the laptop to do research on projects they are given. They will be able to access information quickly and learn to navigate though different websites to find the most appropriate information. Part of the common core curriculum calls for them to be savvy with technology. Having a laptop will enable them to become proficient in technology use.

Students are excited about using technology where it's accessible.

Often times it isn't readily available to them because their families may not have a computer or they may have a computer with no Internet capabilities. Having a laptop in the classroom will engage them in their learning and help them in doing the research they will need to do to complete their assignments.
