This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title 1 public charter school in an urban community. Although many families choose our school over the neighborhood schools because of our commitment to high academic expectations as well as moral focus curriculum, students often come to us performing below proficiency on state tests.
In my classroom, students are continually told that they can achieve whatever they are willing to work for. Students are challenged to persevere regardless of the situations they live with outside of school.
My Project
Helping students to learn at every level is very important and we have found several programs that engage students through technology. In order to be most effective, students need to have headphones for their private learning at their level.
Engagement is key. The high level of graphics used in IREADY and Prodigy help keep students engaged while they learn.
Cultivating a love a reading has become difficult with this generation that is used to brilliant animation in the games they play. Graphic Novels have really sparked a love of reading in my room and I can't keep the books coming fast enough.
