Learning With Scholatic News and Science Spin Magazines

Help me give my students Scholastic News and Science Spin magazines to help me instill a love for reading and learning about the world around them.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Kohr's classroom raised $320

My Project

In my classroom, we will be learning literacy, math, science, and social studies. What better way to learn about the world than by reading magazines. Reading is an essential skill that is very important to begin learning at a young age. I will be using these magazines along with other materials to build on my second graders' reading skills.

My students will receive at least one magazine per week (sometimes more when we receive Science Spin) in which they will learn about current events relating to math, science, and social studies.

Each magazine will have activity sheets for the students to complete following reading the articles. These activities will help students practice and reinforce skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, recognizing text features, graphing, addition, and subtraction. These skills are used to help make real-world connections.

They will also play the games on the website that are created to accompany each issue. I will also play videos that give background information and provide a real-world example so that the students can gain further knowledge about the subjects.

By incorporating the use of magazines in my classroom, I hope to foster a love of learning and reading while also learning math, science, and social studies.

When we read these magazines, I hope that my students will gain an appreciation and love for learning about science and social studies along with reading. They will also gain a better understanding of the world around them and hopefully learn to love reading.
