My students come from a variety of backgrounds and all have different amazing abilities. The students I work with have special needs. We use a variety of methods to work and learn in ways that will best meet the needs of each student.
With the wide variety of abilities and needs in my class have includng academic, behavioral, emotional, and sensory seeking there are unique challenges and needs that can be difficult to meet without additional creativity and support.
My students love to use hands-on and engaging materials to further their learning and help them make the learning progress we are striving for. Some of the most motivating things for my students would be technology and things they can interact with. This is how they learn best and how I can make connections that create a deeper understanding and level of attainment.
My Project
News 2 You is an adapted newspaper for students with learning differences. It takes current events and topics and supports them with symbols and supports so that all students are able to read and comprehend a piece of their world.
News 2 You is a fun way to engage students in things going on around them and expose them to current events.
My students love when we do our weekly article and are so fully engaged. I’m always amazed by how much more reading and comprehension I see from students when using News 2 You. Each article includes a weekly joke and recipe page. My kids love when we have the chance to cook in class and make fun new things.
