My students come from a variety of different backgrounds and walk of life but due to the low socioeconomic environment of our community, over half of the students in my district are eligible for free and reduced lunch. My students are spontaneous, love learning, and come in each day with millions of stories to tell. They always love to please and do their best. It is amazing to watch them grow and develop over a school year.
Kindergarteners are, by nature, active children.
They love to move and play.
My Project
Research has shown that children must move to be able to learn effectively as their bodies were not designed to sit still all day long. Musical items such as rhythm sticks, shakers, and scarves will give my students concrete items to use while they are learning while they move and shake as their bodies were designed to do!
Movement and music are shown to help all students, especially students who have special needs.
According to a growing body of research, movement increases blood and oxygen flow, which positively affects cognitive development, physical health, and mental well-being.
