My Students
Can you imagine trying to learn how to count or comprehend a story without being able to visualize it in your head? Our students face this challenge every day. The manipulatives we have requested will allow them to touch, see and feel the items that they are learning how to gain more knowledge from.
My students are first and second graders who are severely intellectually challenged.
Even though learning is harder for my students they are still able to reach their full potential with the right strategies and techniques. Learning with manipulative's keeps the students engaged and helps them to focus for longer periods of time. The manipulates help them grasp the concept that they are trying to learn, they can hear it, feel it and see it.
My Project
Some of the manipulatives that we have requested will help our students learn how to do basic math skills and work on fine motor skills. As their fine motor skills improve our students will be able to start working on initial tracing skills. The puppets that coordinate with the books will help the kids stay focused longer which will allow them to comprehend more of the story as it is being read aloud to them.
This project will open up a whole new world for my students.
Learning is normally very difficult for the children but the manipulatives will allow them to grasp the concepts easier because they will be using multiple sensory modalities. The students need a lot of repetition for them to grasp concepts and with these manipulative being exciting colorful and fun it will keep them engaged longer and wanting to learn.
