My students need manipulatives such as Lego blocks, shapes and clocks to make their learning more meaningful and have fun.

My Students
My students are so eager to learn every day when they get to school. I want them to retain that eagerness throughout the year and am always looking for ways to make their learning fun and exciting. I am always so happy to hear from others that my students love coming to their math class.
Most of my students are Native American students living below the poverty level.
However, they are always ready to learn. I am amazed at some of the hardships my students live with but do not affect their attitudes towards school.
Our school has been continuously growing since I began here 3 years ago. With that growth comes the realization that we usually do not have an adequate amount of resources for our classroom.
My Project
My students will use the Lego blocks to compare fractions, put them in order and generate equivalent fractions. The clocks will be used to give students hands-on experience on elapsed time. The shapes will allow students to connect the abstract concept of attributes (edges, vertices and faces) to actually touching them.
Fractions have always been my least favorite concept to teach.
I want to change that by implementing new and exciting ways to teach the concept. I realize my students pickup a lot of my attitudes towards things I don't like. Hopefully, this will change both of our attitudes and make it more enjoyable.
