Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In small groups, students are more likely to share their personal experiences and perspectives. This setting encourages voices that might be overshadowed in large group discussions, especially those from historically marginalized communities. Small groups offer a more balanced environment where no single perspective dominates. This helps disrupt classroom hierarchies and encourages students of all backgrounds to speak freely and be heard. Working closely with peers allows students to grapple with complex issues like racism, identity, and equity in a setting that feels safer and more supportive. It fosters deeper reflection and understanding, not just memorization of facts. When students engage in guided conversations about racial justice in smaller groups, they are more likely to listen, ask questions, and develop empathy. This builds a stronger sense of community and respect in the classroom. Students bring different levels of knowledge and comfort to racial justice topics. Small group materials can be tailored to meet students where they are, allowing for scaffolding, questions, and conversations at a pace that supports growth for all learners. Our goal is to provide each student with an equitable education. Small group is a perfect time to implement this.
