Learning While Moving

My students need different ways of sitting around the room. This will help with their desire to move, while being able to work. The stability balls and seat cushions are a perfect way to accomplish that.

My Students

Our school is a Title One school. Title One means that 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school is located in a low income area. Our students work very hard every day. Our school has a 97% attendance rate, which means they rarely miss school. My students are very inquisitive and vocal. Many of my students are very active.

Our school is one of the most diverse schools in Memphis, TN.

Our students speak multiple languages including English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindu, Amharic and Swahili. My students have a strong sense of community.

My Project

Students learn best when they are able to move and use their energy, but it is hard to do that and focus. Movement is key to all learning and these tools will help students stay motivated. We are ready to learn, we just need a little bounce!

I want my room to be a place students want to be in.

Having interactive ways for them to learn is a big piece of that! Many students sit at home all day after school on a tablet or watching television. Getting them moving makes them desire to be in class, which creates a desire to learn, which pushes forward their education!

These kids deserve a lot and we just need a little help to get there! Our exercise ball chairs will be in a reading comprehension station which takes about 10 minutes to complete. This will help create fluid movement so that all students get a chance. The cushion seats will be in the individual reading area-motivating kids to pick a book quickly and read!
