This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an integrated collaborative teaching (ICT) first-grade class, with a mixture of general and special education students at a high-needs Title I school in the Bronx. While the majority of students come from low-income homes or from homes with limited parental involvement, they are enthusiastic and come to school every day ready to learn. They see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and love to make me proud.

My first graders are some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and they inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

In our classroom, we believe that students learn best through doing or playing. Games, such as the Superhero Phonics Game, Syllabuilders Board Games, Roll & Read Blends & Digraphs Game and Bee Wordy games, will all reinforce literacy concepts being taught in a fun and educational way. These games will be used as part of Centers on a weekly basis for students to practice skills such as decoding and dividing multisyllabic words, blends and diagrams, and building 4-letter words.

We are also requesting materials to aid in our organization of materials.

The hanging pocket folders will be used to store students guided reading materials according to their levels. Students can retrieve their folders independently and complete their work with easy access. The stapler, scissors and pencil cup holder are all common classroom supplies needed to complete tasks.

Fun Fridays are an incentive for students to work toward, where they are given thirty minutes to work in centers with their peers. They are given an opportunity to socialize with their classmates while having fun, hence why we’re asking for the linkin logs, watercolors, playdoh factory set and legos. The boys enjoy building and the girls like to make things. We have done this type of incentive in the past with huge success, and would like to try it again this year.
