My Project
Preschoolers, like the three, four, and five-year-olds in our building, enjoy building and creating structures. STEM exposure and project-based learning are great ways to engage with students that have communication impairments or autism, with students who are deaf and hard of hearing, and with students with motor impairments.
Classroom teachers, special education teachers, English as a New Language (ENL) teachers, and therapists work together to meet the needs of students in our building.
The students learn academics through play and exploration. Students in my classroom come from many different backgrounds. Seventy-eight percent of our school population is below the poverty level and thirty-six percent is learning English as a new language. We strive to give them a place where they can grow and succeed. It is our goal to make every activity fun and engaging.
Preschoolers are learning all about their emotions and how they work. First, they learn to recognize and understand their feelings and those of others before learning how to manage them.
Learning to calm yourself is a lifelong skill that can start in preschool!
The stations in this kit will help preschoolers learn ways that they can help manage their own big emotions. Managing emotions and knowing what to do with them is brand new to preschoolers. Teaching them strategies to calm their bodies and take control of their brains can be used throughout their lives.
