Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful, inquisitive, and compassionate young people. They are predominantly Latinx and Black and attend a low-income, Title I school.

Their circumstances do not impede them; they are hungry to learn, grow, and enjoy sharing that process with their families.

Currently, our school district is navigating the best pathway to learning for the next school year. We will more than likely incorporate remote learning in some capacity given the number of students enrolled and the limited space we have in the physical school building.

My Project

As an educator, my goal has consistently been to be informed about my practice and the context in which I teach in order to better serve my students and community. The books that I am a requesting are ones that address American history and action steps and reflections for anti racism instruction. I am also requesting some picture books that feature activists and ways in which children can make change in themselves and their community.

By requesting these books, I am hoping to learn and unlearn information as it relates to racism, anti racism, and pedagogy.

These books will help me as an educator as I plan for the next school year and support my students as they navigate the world around them.
