Learning Tools Kit for My Super Special Day Class Kids

My Students
My students belong to a grades 9 through 12 severely handicapped special day class. They have varying and unique needs, same as any set of typical peers, but they have the biggest hearts. They work together despite some hardships and they continue to challenge each other to be better each day.
My students take pride in their work.
They love hands on activities such as crafts, gardening, food preparation and even chores. As part of the Generation Z, my guys love technology! For them, school is one of the places to be.
My Project
These materials are aligned with the framework that we are following in our special day class- the BASICS3 Curriculum Framework. BASICS3 gives SPED teachers the goal bank that contains appropriate and attainable for our students. For instance, a material included in the kit is a Transportation Theme Box, and a Community and Careers Theme Box that both support my students' foundational knowledge and familiarity with accessing the community.
These activity center materials focus on functional academics such as money math, measurements, fine motor skills; vocational skills such as career exposure, making choices, conflict resolution; community skills such as restaurant behavior, making purchases, civic responsibilities, to name a few.
Other domains included are recreation and leisure and domestic skills, which are equally important to the first ones mentioned. The activities are aligned with the Common Core Standards as well, making sure that special needs classes are at par with the standards applied and followed by all the classes across the district and the country!
