Learning Tools for Different Learners

Help me give my students hands-on learning materials such as letter and number manipulatives to help reinforce their skills at home. They also need some art and writing instruments, as well as sensory tools to help them self-regulate.

My Students

I teach kindergarten-second grade special education. My students are mostly non-verbal and on the lower end of the autism spectrum. They are unable to work on technology or over video teaching as their focus and attention spans are limited. They learn best by engaging in hands-on materials, most of which is stuck in my classroom.

My non-verbal students on the autism spectrum are at a disadvantage without hands-on learning materials during this time of crisis.

We are currently using the Google Classroom platform but all of my students require 1:1 assistance when accessing technology. In addition to learning materials, they are in need of sensory tools to help them regulate their behaviors during work and while their parents might otherwise be engaged.

My Project

My students are mostly non-verbal and on the autism spectrum. They benefit the most from 1:1 instruction and hands-on learning. They are an extremely loving bunch who I miss dearly and hope to see grow and thrive even in these hard times.

While they are taking part in distance learning, a lot of them do not have the necessary manipulatives or materials to help them reinforce their already learned skills as well as work on new skills set out in their Individualized Learning Plans.

ABC and number manipulatives will help those learning letter and number identification. Counting tokens and tools will help those learning how to count with 1:1 correspondence. A few are learning to read and spell sight words.

Sensory toys such as play-doh, water bead manipulatives, and light projectors will help all of them with their sensory self-regulation when it comes to behaviors.
