Learning Tolerance Through Seating Choices

My students need flexible seating options such as a metal table and chair set, ergonomic bean bag chairs, and meditation pillows that will help teach tolerance and acceptance and differences.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Thomas's classroom raised $543

My Students

My students come from various socio-economic, race, religious, and cultural backgrounds. They are bright-eyed and excited about learning. Many of my students consider school to be their safe place.

Our classroom fosters a love for learning through different experiences.

Many students do not have the background knowledge that you would expect a child their age to have. I try to provide students with experiences that will impact their lives not only while they are in my classroom but, that they can take with them throughout their lives.

My Project

The materials in this project will help my students learn how to accept and appreciate others that have differences. This project will help to teach and give examples of what tolerance is and why it is so important.

We all learn in different ways.

Having various seating options within the classroom will help students to realize that not everyone learns the same way and to be accepting of those who may have needs different from their own.

The metal table and chair set will allow students to learn in a small group. This learning arrangement will be beneficial to students who may have attention problems or those who may just need some alone and quiet time. Having ergonomic bean bags will help promote good posture which leads to better oxygen flow to the brain. This will aid in students paying better attention and retaining more knowledge. Meditation pillows will be used for students who prefer not to sit in a desk or have a chair.

This project will help to create 21st century citizens that are knowledgeable and aware of others' differences. In today's world, it is so important that we are tolerant and recognize and appreciate those who may be different.
