Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

My students are inquisitive, self-motivated, inspiring, active, and an amazing bunch of students.

They inspire me to be the best teacher that I can for them because of their love and passion for learning. They love to read, sing, be creative, explore, and participate in activities that keep them fit. They love to learn new things and challenge themselves to be the best they can be.

My Project

Being a teacher of both African American and Hispanic Heritage, tolerance is very important to me. Too many times, tolerance is not taught to students at the elementary level because there is pressure to teach the academics. I believe that teaching tolerance, which leads to empathy is just as important.

I am requesting a class set of "I am Malala" in order to show my students the importance of tolerance in today's society.

Malala is a girl who is a devout Muslim. At childhood, she was very aware of the obstacles and constraints that girls had to go through in her society just to receive an education. Eventually, she was shot by men who believed the opposite. This book would be a perfect vehicle for my students to gain a deeper understanding of empathy and tolerance towards others.

I am also requesting "He named me Malala", which is a documentary about Malala's life. I know that this is important for the visual learners in my class to see the intolerance of the Taliban about women receiving an education and the importance of fighting for what you believe in.
