Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are full of curiosity and eagerness to learn.

They come from a variety of backgrounds and languages.

Over 80% speak a first language other than English. Our school is home to a diverse population, over 90% free and reduced lunch and we have the highest homeless population at the elementary level in our district.

My enthusiastic students face challenges other than learning the English language and homelessness. They find themselves in a new culture that they need to figure out how to live in and navigate. They have had little to no exposure to the experiences we take for granted. They are loving, full of boundless energy and a sheer joy to be around!

My Project

Our group of diverse second graders love learning and do it best when they are free to work together to explore, experience and discover new concepts and learning. Right now our newest classroom is bare; we are still waiting for desks and chairs to arrive!

Fun, colorful, flexible seating and ways to organize their learning will be a welcome change from the plain desks and chairs they are used to.

The flexible seating,whether on the carpet or floor seats, will let students move between groups and at the same time help students stay focused on the learning happening! The literacy center/storage center will be a great way for them to be independent learners and classroom citizens.
