Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow-Future Healthcare Professionals
Help me give my students STEM based laboratory kits to cultivate a lifelong curiosity in healthcare and medical careers. Students will benefit by learning about health and the human body through hands on lesson plans and activities.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a High School Health Science teacher at MAEC in East Las Vegas, Nevada. The school site I work for i s a Title I school with a high poverty rate, many of whom are English Language Learners and 100% receive free lunch. Mater Academy began its Career and Technical Education program to engage and expand high school students' knowledge in medical and healthcare related careers.
Students will benefit from your donation by receiving STEM based laboratory equipment to optimize their hands-on learning experience.
The laboratory equipment will allow them to learn how to treat, diagnose and prevent human diseases.
My Project
Students will be academically challenged by using hands-on science supplies such Human Senses Experiment kits, You are the Doctor, and Clinical Diabetes Diagnosis simulation. These practical activities will enhance their overall kinesthetic learning experience. Since, the COVID-19 pandemic students have been deprived of crucial in-person education.
By providing hand-on activities students are able to collaborate, engage and practice STEM based laboratory skills with their peers in a classroom setting.
Nevada Standards include collaborating with others (1.2), understanding basic anatomy and physiology (2.0), identifying the bones of the axial and appendicular skeleton and their anatomical landmarks (2.2.1) and discussing common diseases and disorders (13.1).
