This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Walking into my classroom, you will find a diverse group of kids, from all walks of life. Many of my students need to learn how to successfully interact with their peers. I have a few students from troubled homes, which makes me work harder to create an environment where every child feels safe and able to learn.
After the pandemic, students are struggling with how to be in a classroom filled with students, who have needs that are different than their own.
Students are having to relearn skills like managing emotions, and waiting their turn. Many students are having difficulty managing the routine and structure, and this manifests itself in disruptive classroom behavior.
I am asking for stools, so my students don't have to sit at a structured desk when they are feeling unable to work with their peers. Students will be able to grab a stool and a clipboard and go find a place to work that allows them to regulate their emotions while successfully staying in the classroom. My goal is to create a classroom environment where students are able to share and manage those big emotions. For this reason, I am asking for a variety of games that teach these critical skills. This encourages working with other students while working through problems (both mental and social). Playing games fosters problem-solving and looking at situations in a new, non-threatening way. Working with different classmates will allow kids to learn social skills and how to tolerate differences.
