My students love listening to and making their own music. I'd like to incorporate this more into instructional strategies for my special education classroom.
Using their choice of a drum my students can read and count to the beat as we work on phonological awareness and math skills.
We can drum out the number of syllables in a word, beat the drum if a word pair rhymes, drum to represent the quantity of a number and rote count. The more active my students are in their learning opportunities the more they retain information. This will be a fun way for my students to learn- and they wont even know they're working!
