My Students

I recently began teaching 11th and 12th graders at a local high school. These students come from a low income low education area that is on the outskirts of a military base. Many of these students will not have the chance to attend college once they graduate. Due to the county being a low income area, the school system has provided a way for the students to obtain skills and trades that they can use after high school.

Many of my students come in on a daily basis and talk about their poor living conditions, and how they have to go to work prior to graduation or as soon as they graduate.

Since I have taken the classroom over in November of 2018, I have seen a huge change in attitudes towards learning. They come everyday excited about what they are learning next. Once they are finished with this program, they will have the chance to test for their NC EMT certifications so that they can enter the medical field on the ambulance.

My Project

The materials I requested will help my students learn how to properly place advanced airways in patients that are unable able to maintain their own airway or patients that are in cardiac arrest. The full body model has been requested so that they can learn the human anatomy and the proper locations for the different organs in the body.

These supplies will help the students be successful in the class.

The students will be better equipped in their learning and more successful in learning with the hands on approach. Since EMS is mostly hands on being able to touch the models and practice on them will give them a better feel for what is to come on the ambulance.
