This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My goal for my students is to develop skills throughout the year that lead them to be better global citizens. One topic that we focus on is how climate change impacts biomes across the world. Before we begin studying the impacts of climate change, we learn about different proxies that are used as evidence of climate change. Dendrochronology, using trees as evidence of environmental change, is a topic that our class can collect our own evidence in the schoolyard to study.

A tree borer will allow students to go into the schoolyard and collect tree cores to analyze the environmental conditions of our city over the last 50-100 years.

The tree cookies will provide students with practice in reading tree rings before we collect our own samples to analyze.
