This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager and curious first graders who love every opportunity to learn. They greet each day with excitement and show such excitement for new experiences.
Every day, students listen to books intently, learn through games, learn social skills, and revel at new learning.
First grade students are sponges for learning; this is a formative year in learning foundational reading and math skills. Watching them learn is one of my greatest joys!
My Project
First grade students are full of wonder. In this formative year, students make the transition into reading, like really reading. Year after year, students and parents both revel in the fact that their child is truly reading books independently; it's truly such a joy to witness!
When children are learning to read, we know that their phonics skills are imperative to their success.
As children become more fluent and confident with "sounding out" words, they find that they have the tools necessary to problem solve within their books. This confidence pushes students forward not only in their reading skills, but also their writing too!
I am requesting these "decodable books" so that I can foster confidence and independence in my early readers. The books I have requested include detailed and engaging pictures to make my readers excited! I have also requested disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer to ensure proper, safe disinfection while following coronavirus guidelines.
