Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life, and eager to learn.
I have started a new grade level this year.
This is a fresh start in Kindergarten. Therefore, I have been needing everything a Kinder classroom needs for the benefit of my new students. I serve 15 Kinder students for the 2019-2020 school year with a wide range of abilities, needs, and concerns. My students are in a low income/high poverty school in which more than 80% of the students receive free or reduced-price meals.
When children have a strong foundation of learning, they are able to stay on track to remain in school, graduate, and pursue post-secondary education and training to successfully transition into adulthood.
Children make our classroom their home for however long they stay and miss it dearly when they move on. This year, I get to serve some of last year's Pre-K students. No matter who enters through my classroom doors, they become part of our school family. So this year, we get to add more members to the family.
My Project
I have chosen Spanish Leveled Readers for this project to use this school year during Guided Reading.
I will directly help the students to establish fundamental skills necessary for proficient reading.
They will identify weaknesses and strengthen specific skills. Students will improve attention to detail. The students will build fluency and expand vocabulary knowledge. They will develop reading comprehension skills. Reading will also enhance their imagination and strengthen their writing abilities.
We are currently starting fresh as I was recently moved to Kinder. Please help support our classroom and bring the love of reading to my students! Reading is contagious!
