This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing young people who might not live in the best circumstances but impress me every day. The class this money would be going to is Latinos In Action. These students had to apply and get through an interview process to be in this class. They also keep rigorous grade and behavior expectations to stay in the class. They have a desire to be better, know more and gain experience.
It is my hope that with this grant money I can get them out in the community.
I believe students learn better with hands-on experience. Service is a huge part of the Latinos In Action and the joy it brings my students is amazing. Them knowing they can help others is a huge confidence builder and allows them to take on more of a leadership role. So they will be tutoring at a neighboring elementary school.
My Project
My students love to serve others. By funding these trip dates you will allow them to serve their community and help young underprivileged children learn to read. These kindergartners they are helping represent my LIA students and where they come from. Some of my students came from the very elementary we will be working at.
Teaching young students how to read and serving them makes my students feel like they have so much to offer.
They get a huge confidence boost and start to realize just how capable they are. They begin to quickly realize they can make a difference in themselves, with others and in their community. They also start to realize in their new found confidence that college and the rest of their dreams are not out of the question for them.
