My Students
I am a reading teacher of 36 wonderful first grade kiddos who come to school excited and ready to learn. They are eager to see their friends and to see what the day holds for them.
I teach at a Title I School in Florida where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Numerous students also receive a backpack of food to take home on the weekends. Despite the hardships that some of the students face, they are willing to put their best efforts in to become the best first graders they can be!
My Project
The students and I absolutely love the books that come in the Rigby Pm Platinum Collection Complete Package Blue guided reading series. This set of books includes 6 copies each of 24 titles. The books that I am requesting will be used daily in my reading classroom to teach my students how to read and comprehend what they have read.
These books offer engaging text and pictures that will help foster a love of reading for my first grade students.
After reading and discussing the books in school, my students collect their books in a repeated reading bag, which allows them the opportunity to continue to practice reading the books at school and at home. Being able to repeatedly read their books develops their fluency , comprehension and confidence!
Many of the books that my school currently has are outdated or copies have been lost. The lack of updated materials makes it difficult to teach students how to read.
