Learning to Read-Phonics Instruction

Help me give my students exceptional phonics instructions with a large easel to demonstrate word patters as a whole class, hands on material to practice the patterns learned and games to increase fluency of their reading skills.

My Students

I have a diverse population in my classroom each facing their own academic challenges: Yet all of these students come to school each day with a smile on their faces. They enjoy books STEAM projects, scientific exploration and are all happy to be in school, learning and playing with their peers.

My students school experiences and instruction over the last few years has been less than normal.

They have been in an unstable learning environment, were one day they are sitting in class and the next excluded. This has caused many of these students to below in grade level reading skills. Yet, they have a love of books and a yearning of the knowledge and stories within.

My Project

The resources that have been chosen will be used to address phonics skills that are necessary for all students to become fluent readers. During these past years Covid restrictions have removed the opportunity of consistent phonics instruction and classroom opportunities for our students to engage in word work and manipulations of sounds through play.

The ability to manipulating sounds to decode and read words is vital for early readers and needs to be a priority.

These materials will ensure my students are ready to transfer from learning to read to reading to learn,

analysis skills in decoding words.
