Learning to Read Music is as Easy as Tap-2-3-4!

My Project

As a band and general music teacher for the past 28 years, I strive daily to make music enjoyable for my students. According to our recent school report card, 85.5% of students in my school are in poverty, but that doesn't hinder them from always having a smile on their faces when they enter my classroom! I have discovered that all of my students, regardless of whether they are in band or general music, are ready for new and exciting strategies to make learning to read music fun.

For the past three years, I have been utilizing drumsticks, buckets, and even the backs of their chairs for students to be able to tap rhythms and learn to read music during our daily musical warm-ups.

My students are excited that learning to read music is easy and a lot of fun. I love being able to see their faces as they perform a rhythm play-along while they also learn to count and play the various rhythms.
