Learning to Read: Decodable Readers for Students With Disabilities

My Project

I have an incredibly excitable group of students, and they constantly exceed my expectations. All of them are making incredible growth this year, and we are working diligently to close the gaps in their education. However, there is still much work that needs to be done for some of the students I service.

Reading is an aspect of learning that hinders all other content areas, so it is imperative that my students have the tools they need to develop their reading skills.

We work on a variety of phonics concepts in my classroom, but students need to be able to apply their learning. The readers I have selected contain beautiful illustrations, which will certainly capture their attention, and the readers will help my students practice their phonics skills in context. The readers are filled with worlds of diversity, and my students deserve to see other children like themselves represented in their reading material. These instructional-level books are written in a format where even the earliest reader can complete a chapter book, a skill that many of my students dream of accomplishing. I know my students will grow academically from this resource, and I know their confidence in themselves will grow as well!
