Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a kindergarten teacher at Jeanne Meadows Elementary School in San Jose, California. Meadows is a low-income school of 700 students. We have many students who come from non-English speaking families. Many students in my classroom are just starting to learn to speak English. This makes learning to read even harder for them. Most students in my classroom speak Tagalog, Vietnamese, or Spanish. They greatly struggle when trying to speak and read in English. I would like to get a phonics learning center so that students can listen to a story and follow along. This will help the students learn how to read, pronounce sounds, and become more familiar with English. I would use these materials daily during classroom centers and for students who finish work early. This would be a tremendous help to all the students in my classroom. This system will last for many years and reach countless students. The afternoon kindergarten teacher would also be able to use this so 40 children would be able to use it this year. Your help would allow me to get a program containing 12 literacy packs with 4 books and a tape in each pack. Thank you very much in advance for your support!
