Kindergarten is such an exciting age group. They love to come to school everyday and they love learning! This eagerness is one the main reasons why kindergartners have the opportunity to make such amazing growth over the course of the school year. Many students come in knowing a limited number of letters and sounds, but by the end of the year they are reading and writing.
Learning comes to life with hands-on opportunities.
I provide learning that connects students to each other, our school, our community, and our world. Alongside our academics, we spend time learning how to regulate our own emotions, how to be a friend to others, and how to work together as a community. Our class is more than just a classroom, we are a group of people preparing to become productive citizens for our future.
My Project
My students can't wait for station time everyday! This is their opportunity to practice what we have been learning in the classroom based on their preferences, their speed, and their ability. I pour my heart and time into creating stations that are engaging and rigorous.
During stations students are having so much fun they don't realize they are learning!
I spent months this fall creating reading stations that build upon one another and are self-correcting. Students are able to check their own work once they are finished and discover mistakes (if any) on their own. Identifying our own mistakes directly connects to deeper understanding of the content.
I spent the month of December launching the stations and quickly discovered we didn't have enough movable letters. Students share and do something else while waiting for others to finish their work, but I would love to provide more letters so students don't have to wait to get their hands on movable letters. I also need more baskets to display the work I created in a user friendly way for students to get their work from.
