This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a special education teacher in a low socioeconomic "Title I" school, all the students receive free breakfast and lunch. My class consists of 12 students, 9 boys and 3 girls. My kids are faced with many challenges in and outside the classroom. Many come from single parent homes and have many siblings, so they do not get the same advantages that other children many get in other school districts. Although my kids have varying disabilities, (Learning Disabled , Autism, Emotional Disturbed and Mentally Handicapped), they do not let these challenges interfere with their desire to learn and achieve greater academic success. As a teacher, your role is not only to meet the academic needs of your students but to guide your children to be productive members of their community. I want to provide my students with experiences and a variety of ways to learn. When my students are with me, My sole focus is to challenge them to love learning. To teach them that learning can be fun. I want to provide a safe and comfortable environment, A library stacked with books of all interests levels/ genres, tablets so they can learn to use technology and manipulatives to help them see their math. I want to inspire!
My Project
Help inspire my students by providing tablets that can enhance their phonics and comprehension. I want to help them stay organized with seat sacks and to use hands on math to help with place value. I want to keep my class engaged. Many of them do not have any electronics at home and I feel this would be a great addition to the classroom. It can also be used as a reward for hardwork. Many of my kids have a hard time with math so hands on materials are a necessity to achieve their math goals! I'm trying to build a better learning environment in general. Please help!
